HR Map Update
In the last edition of New Recruit Jon Blaze talked about the newly introduced CIPD HR Map. In particular he discussed how the approach of breaking down job roles by the core activities, knowledge and behaviours could help HR professionals take a wider, more holistic view of how individual roles help an organisation achieve its strategic objectives.

Jon also looked at how the HR Map could help make the recruitment process more effective by encouraging the analysis of what behaviours and competencies an organisation requires. During these ever changing economic times, this process is more important than ever as organisations change direction and embark on strategic recovery or growth plans.
Here we look at some of the work that Jonathan Lee Recruitment has been carrying out with clients to show how recruiting via the HR Map model can work.
Jonathan Lee Recruitment, having recently placed a manufacturing manager at an SME in the furniture industry, is now working with the same company to recruit a number of manufacturing team leaders. A strategic approach was taken from the outset, identifying key behaviours that would be required to help the company achieve its strategic objectives, ensuring that the people recruited can help take the organisation in the direction it wants to go. Jonathan Lee Recruitment is working with the company to recruit people who demonstrate agility, change management skills, and innovative thinking, challenging historic practices and identifying cost effective and customer focused solutions.
Jonathan Lee Recruitment is also currently working with a major global organisation to recruit people who are behaviourally as well as technically equipped to take the organisation forward to the next level. The organisation has very demanding strategic objectives and the work involves liaising with the UK HR team to understand more about the future strategic direction of the group and the different divisions within it. This will help ensure the recruitment process delivers candidates that will make a real contribution to the future of the organisation.
This evolving approach allows the provider and the client to use the latest in personality and behavioural analysis to ensure that recruits are aligned with the strategic direction, culture and overall DNA of the organisation. This can help improve performance and retention levels within the company and will ultimately have a positive effect on the bottom line.
In support, Jonathan Lee Recruitments HR consultancy arm, Integrated HR, offers strategic recruitment and employee development services to clients whom they have previously worked with. The benefit of this is that Jonathan Lee Recruitment can develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of the competencies, skills and behaviours that are needed at various levels within the organisation to ensure strategy realisation for all stakeholders.
Jon Blaze said: "As the economy starts to recover, organisations will increasingly be embarking on strategic recovery and growth plans, which will require them to take on people who have specific behavioural profiles as well as the pre-requisite skills set. Recruiters will increasingly need to respond to this by working more closely with senior managers to align the recruitment process to the organisations precise needs."
