Medilink award for ground-breaking design that gives dignity back to patients
A revolutionary product inspired by personal experience has led to the Halifax based firm, Independent Care Products Ltd, being honoured at the Medilink Yorkshire and Humber Healthcare Business Awards. The company won the Jonathan Lee Recruitment in partnership with the NHS Award for its product, the Dignity Bidet, which is designed to help patients with impaired dexterity or strength, maintain their dignity.
The award recognises collaboration with the NHS that has, or will have, a major impact on business performance or patient care. The Dignity Bidet, which is midway between a standard commode and an expensive plumbed in bidet toilet, will have significant benefits in three crucial areas: NHS cost savings through reduced bed-blocking; potential reduction in infections by improving personal hygiene; and enabling patients’ capacity for self-care, helping to restore dignity and patient choice.
Andy Speechley of Independent Care Products Ltd, who designed the product following the experience of a close friend, said: "It validates the work that I've done and gives me the confidence to carry on doing what I do best, which is inventing assistive technology."
